Paul Hill

In the 1970s, Paul Hill chose to leave a successful career in photojournalism to concentrate on his own photography and to work in photographic education. His first post was Nottingham Trent Polytechnic, where he was later appointed head of the forerunner to all current student-centred higher education courses in creative photography. Another notable achievement during this period was to open, with his wife, Angela, The Photographers' Place, which was the UK's first residential photography workshop based in Ashbourne,these courses ran for 20 years until 1996.

Paul Hill is now course Director of the MA Photography course at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, and has continued to lecture and hold photography workshops in Europe and the US.

A major influence on contemporary British photography, Paul was awarded a fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in 1990 and an MBE for his services to the medium in 1994. He has exhibited regularly since 1970, and collections of his work are held at galleries and museums worldwide, including: the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Art Collection in London, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Cleveland, Museum of Art in Ohio, Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio, the Bibliothéque Nationale de France in Paris, the Australian National Gallery in Canberra, and the Foundation for Photography in Tokyo.

He is the Author of two further titles: White Peak, Dark Peak and Dialogue with Photography (with Thomas Cooper).
