I'm a Scottish (Inverness-based) professional environment, landscape, travel/tourism and natural history photographer, specializing in the involvement of people with the natural world. I work with Wildshots several weeks of the year leading photography workshops around Scotland, and occasionally overseas. I've undertaken major environmental documentary projects for Scottish Natural Heritage, such as recording Beinn Eighe NNR over the course of a year (UK's first NNR). I have undertaken similar work on the Isle of Rum NNR, one of the most difficult projects I've ever undertaken, due to appalling weather and logistics of working in an extremely remote area unsupported. And a more easy project to photograph hill farmers around the Cairngorm Mountains. And much more for Forestry Commission, WWF Scotland, RSPB and others.I've produced material for three books for Birlinn Publishers, Edinburgh over the last 4 years, on Scotland's West Coast, Unknown Hebrides, and Mull & Iona. The Unknown Hebrides book involved visiting over twenty little-known or overlooked hebridean islands, using a seakayak, hitching lifts on fishing boats and yachts, and a few normal ferry runs. I've also spent 18 months making a 16mm documentary on wild otters on the west coast of Scotland and the material has recently been digitized and I am currently editing this in Final Cut Pro.Current personal projects are on the astonishing Moray Firth bottlenose dolphin population, recording their behaviour and the related human activity, and a long-term project on the sustainable inshore fishing industry around the Isle of Mull.Commercial work for 2007 are projects on the whisky industry, recording landscapes and people working in whisky production, and a major book on sustainable/organic food production and the benefits of local food production to counter the environmental cost of global food production and distribution.I work a few days a week in Social Work DIsability Services, which I've been doing for twenty years, and have undertaken several photography-based arts project that have had considerable benefits for participants. I am very passionate about teaching photography, and apart from my work with Wildshots, I've managed several community photography projects and during 2007 will be managing a photography project with a group of young people in care, as part of Highland Year of Culture. My photographs showing people with disabilities involved in outdoors activities have been exhibited at Buckingham Palace, and I have had solo landscape photographic exhibitions on the Isle of Mull and in Basle, Switzerland.
