On an overcast day, with little hope of interesting light, the moorland sedges and brackens below Stanage Edge are unexpectedly illuminated with golden light. The sandstone escarpment extends for 6.5 km, giving it the distinction of being the longest inland cliff in the country. Although situated very close to Sheffield, Stanage has an air of the wild, which along with its impressive geology, contributes to its popularity with walkers and climbers.
