The plateau of Kinder Scout is one of the countryÕs more accessible mountains. A walker's cairn is evidence of the human relationship with this wild landscape. Nonetheless it is a treacherous terrain, made more so by deep snowdrifts, which can disguise drops and hide overhangs. The location is legendary as the scene a Mass Trespass by ramblers in 1932, which was instrumental in promoting the "right to roam", a privilege now secured by the Countryside Rights of Way Act.
