Perhaps the most recognisable rock formation in the whole of the Peak District, this deeply incised sandstone tor is situated high on Derwent Edge. It is an excellent example of the effects of erosion on the strata (layers) in this sedimentary rock, which is affected at different rates. In late summer, heather flowers in the crevices between boulders and the moorland sedges and grasses are luminous in the late afternoon light.
