Being born and raised in British Columbia has offered me an interesting and inspiring
life hiking and exploring the vast and beautiful wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. As
a small child I developed a keen interest in the outdoors as well as in the arts. At the
age of nineteen I studied very briefly at the University of British Columbia in Fine Arts
but, not finding the guidance I was looking for, I decided to return to the wilderness
and also began exploring acrylic paints. The primary inspiration for my work has
always been the natural world and the amazing landscapes of B.C. Travelling this incredible province during my 6 years as a wilderness guide has left lasting visions in my mind. From the rugged West Coast of Vancouver Island to the high summits in the B.C. Coastal Range to the sun-bleached plains of Australia, the outdoors continuously
inspire me.
Working primarily in acrylic paints I've developed a style that uses linear brush strokes, unique perspectives and saturated colours to capture a sense of motion and the
passage of time in my landscapes to invoke a mood similar to actually being out there
in the hills.
Believing artistic diversity is integral to creative growth I am also very involved in filmmaking - the camera is a great tool for training the eye for composition, and music
- as a professional DJ I enjoy mixing different pieces of music together to 'discover'
the perfect blend, it's much like mixing colours and paints to achieve the perfect hue.
Being based out of Whistler has always been an advantage. The mountains and surroundings are a constant source of inspiration, as are the numerous colourful
characters who drop by my warehouse/studio "The Creation Station." Having a large
space to build canvasses and really dive into painting has been a huge asset to my
career, for the past four years I have been voted peoples' choice for 'Best Artist' in the Whistler's Pique News Magazine and I am steadily amassing a large client base both
locally and internationally.
Dedicating all my time to appreciating the incredible world around me and the creation
of my visions and ideas in paintings, films and music has allowed me to truly chase
my dreams and make them a reality. |
