3,2,1...Take Off - The Big Picture of Natural Britian is officially launched
Friday 8th September 2006 saw the official launch of the Big Picture of Natural Britain, a unique new project, encouraging members of the public to contribute to a giant aerial map of the UK to go on display across the country.
Living Art is asking contributors to submit images taken anywhere in the UK and Ireland of the landscape, flora and fauna, or just people enjoying the outdoors. The images will then be added to the relevant area of the mosaic map of Great Britain and Ireland.
The Big Picture is the first ever ‘online portrait’ of Britain’s Natural Heritage. Once completed the mosaic map will be printed onto a giant panel to go on display at prominent UK locations including galleries, museums, and public buildings. The intention is for several maps to be displayed throughout the UK. The final version will also be shown online and will be available as posters and framed prints. Additional decorative artwork is being provided by nationally acclaimed illustrator and calligrapher Inkymole.
To submit images you must be a Living Art Exhibiting Member, which you can sign up to for free. Once signed up you may submit as many images as you wish within the four main categories – Landscape, Flora, Fauna and People – but only one image per person will be selected to appear on the map to allow everyone a chance.
People signing up to Living Art and the Big Picture will receive a free mini website for their images, plus a free print at the end of the project.
Contributors to the Big Picture of Natural Britain will also be entered into the Big Picture Competition giving them the chance to win £500 worth of vouchers to spend on photographic equipment, as well a giant printed canvas of their winning image.
