Exhibiting Members : Waterfront Photography

Growing up in the South of England, I spent a large majority of my childhood on one of the many beaches along the coastline of Dorset. When I was a child, my fascination with the coast was with all things that appeal to those of the younger generation – building sandcastles, digging for treasure, catching crabs and paddling in the sea!! As I grew up, I developed a deeper passion for the sea when I discovered the real beauty of the Jurassic Coast and it was this passion the inspired me to develop my interest in photography. I have always had a passion for photography but only in recent years have I been able to realise my dreams of actively taking photographs of some of the beautiful seascapes and landscapes around the Dorset area. My instinctive passion seems to be for anything connected with water - I feel drawn to the coast and take inspiration from the beauty that surrounds us. My favourite time to take photographs is either at dawn or sunset when the light appears almost magical in quality and is certainly at its best to capture the true drama in a scene. I love being alone on a beach early in the morning to watch the sun come up with no-one around to disturb me......I occasionally even have to remind myself to actually take the photograph! The Dorset coast and nearby landscapes constantly provide me with photographic opportunities to capture dramatic coastlines, stunning sunsets and stormy skies and is something I will never tire of. In addition to my passion for photography, I also love to study and learn everything I can about anything I love. After devouring many books on the subject, I returned to college part time to study photography. I have completed my City & Guilds Level 1 and 2 Certificates in Photography, passing all units with a Distinction, and have now commenced further studies with a local University. In May 2007, I was awarded my Licentiateship with the Royal Photographic Society following my successful portfolio submission.
