Bogda Feng

This image, taken with a 35mm compact camera, is of Bogda Feng. This mountain is the central peak in the Bogda Shan, one of the eastern arms of the Tian Shan, (the Heavenly Mountains). This is a rarely visited Alpine mountain area to the east of Urumchi, the Provincial Capital of Xinjiang in western China. The carved slab in the foreground is a memorial to a Japanese climber lost on the glacier, (we hid a snow lotus in the cairn as an offering to her).
