Aged 46, Dave (Cubby) Cuthbertson was born and educated in Edinburgh. The Pentland hills provided early adventures, and the Boys Brigade were influential – “at least in keeping us off the streets” and getting into hill walking more seriously.

Bill Birkett
One of Britain’s foremost mountain writers and photographers Bill Birkett is an acknowledged expert on his native Lakeland. Born and bred in Cumbria he first started exploring the region with his father Jim Birkett a leading rock climber and naturalist. An accomplished rock climber, part of the famous Birkett dynasty, he has pioneered many new rock climbs throughout Britain though mainly in his native Lake District.
