David J Slater

After a PhD in Geochemistry (Leeds), then 5 years of post-doctorate research in volcanic eruption prediction, I left the world of science in 1996 in search of a more truthful and meaningful world (yes, that's right!).

I love the rainforest, with visits to Costa Rica, Malaysia, Philippines and Sulawesi. These have all been photographic commissions for conservation groups. When not on commission I will be enjoying places such as East and Southern Africa, and of course the UK with its huge diversity of wildlife and landscapes.

Awards for photography have included the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 1997 and the BBC Amateur Nature Photographer of the Year in 1999. It was following on from these that I turned semi-professional.

I run wildlife photography workshops throughout the year and I am about to join forces with Kiss-of-Light to guide photographers on mind bending tours in Namibia.
